Chennai:India’s 7-2 Thrashing of China has ensured an electric start to their Asian Champions Trophy Campaign. India dominated the first quarter, with a quick brace from captain Harmanpreet Singh. To end the quarter. The second quarter proved to be a challenge. Akashdeep’s goal increased the goal count but Wen Hui of China took advantage of the defensive error, to make it 4-1. Varun’s second goal extinguished Chinese hopes of a comeback and made it 5-1 for India. Gao Jiesheng scored the second and final goal for China. The first half finished 6-2 to India.
In the third quarter, Mandeep Singh scored his 100th Goal for India, making it a special night for the midfielder.
The Chennai Crowd gave a warm reception to the Indian team, and it the excitement around the stadium was definitely felt amongst the team. A major tournament after a decade in a sports-crazy city like Chennai is destined to have a rousing opening game for the hosts

The Indian team won the Asian Champions Trophy in 2011, 2016 and 2018. Pakistan won the title in 2012, 2013 and 2018. In 2018, the final was cancelled due to rain and the event was shared between the two countries. Both countries are the most successful in the history of the tournament.
