ARCHERY | INDIANS REACH MEDAL ROUNDS IN ASIA CUP STAGE 3

Indian Compound Archer Divya Dhayal

Indian Compound Archer Divya Dhayal is a star in making. In Asia Cup Stage 3 at Chinese Taipei, Divya makes it 3 out of 3 Finals in Compound Archery- Assures herself all 3 medals up for grab. At this age of just 15, she has shown enough temperament and character to come up with consistent performances at the World Stage. If ever people had wondered that her Bronze Medal win with Abhishek Verma in the compound mixed event at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 at Antalya was just an one day affair of success, none will preserve that doubt after her wonderful outing at the ongoing Archery Asia Cup Stage 3. Leading an inexperienced Womens Compound Archery Team, World Rank 37 Divya has proved her mettle, finishing as undisputed leader in the qualifications. Her positive vibes spread across the entire Womens Compound Team, as the other 3 Indians Purvasha Shende, Megha Agarwal & Muskan Kirar came up with praise-worthy Seeding of 3, 7 & 13 respectively. The Womens Team as a whole got top seed, keeping behind crowd favourite Taipei & mighty koreans, whereas in Mixed Event Divya along with Mayank Rawat got Seed 3 in Qualifications.

Divya's fantastic form in the tournament continued & is reflected as she has made it to all the 3 finals of Individual, Womens Team & Mixed Team Event of Compound Archery. On Day 1 , Divya & Mayank entered the finals of Mixed Team Event outclassing 6th Seed Singapore 149-139 in the QF & then beating a strong 2nd Seed Iran 146-142 in the SF. Women's Individual Matches saw some close escapes for Divya. She started off well winning R16 144-141 against 17th Seed. But then she had two heart thumping, high adrenaline matches in QF & SF, and in both cases she saw it off with a cool head on her shoulder. She won narrowly against 8th Seed Thai Archer 142-141 in QF. Just as she was gasping for breath, she had no respite, as she faced a highly competitive Malaysian in the SF, who pushed her to the edge make it 144-144 at end of 5 series. Then in tie-breaker too both hit a 9, but Divya just edged out with a 9*(considering her arrow was closest to the 10th mark).Divya thus made it to the finals, as the saying goes fortune favours the brave. Finally, today in Womens Team Event, Top Seed Indian Team of Purvasha Shende, Megha Agarwal & Muskan Kirar lead by Divya Dhayal defeated Malaysia 216-215 in a closely fought SF to make it for the Gold Medal Match. Divya thus has made it 3 out 3 Compound Finals, all of which are slotted for tomorrow. Going by her recent form & gutsy performance in this Asia Cup, the whole of India is dreaming of a triple Gold Bonanza from the 15 year old prodigy
