Asian Champions Trophy 2023 – India display a 5-star performance against Malaysia

Chennai – The hosts have their second win in three games as they beat an inform Malaysia 3-0. The Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium finally saw local boy Karthi Selvam score a goal for India, as he opened the scoring in the first quarter.   Midfielder Hardik Singh goal from a penalty corner doubled India’s lead before half time.

The third quarter started off on even terms, as Malaysia were finding their way into the game. However, their effort was extinguished after Captain Harmanpreet Singh’s penalty corner was converted into a goal. This is his third goal in the tournament, putting him in the top scorer chart.

Jugraj Singh and Gurjant grabbed a goal each in the fourth quarter, as the hosts put out a five-star performance.

The Indians today looked very confident, as they corrected their defensive errors from their games against China and Japan.  The ruthlessness in both attack and defence was enjoyed well by the 9000 people gathered in the stadium. India takes a huge leap into their semi-final bid.

The hosts will have a big game against defending champions Korea tomorrow at 8.30pm
