BWF Super 500 Australian Open 2023 - Prannoy H S clinches silver in Men's Singles

Sydney, Australia - Indian Star shuttler Prannoy is on the losing side of a long, but thrilling Men's Single's final, here in the State Sports Centre. Prannoy and Yang gave their full efforts in their second meeting, and the latter emerged victorious. Weng prevailed in the first game, 21-9, but Prannoy tied the score in the second one, 23-21, as the play approached the hour mark. Prannoy led for the majority of the third game before luck favoured Yang to force an error from the Indian to win his first World Tour Championship. 

Prannoy's win in the second set speaks for his experience and resilience. After a tame defeat of 9-21 in the initial set, Prannoy made sure his effort didn't go to vain and put pressure on Yang, not giving the Chinese shuttler a second to relax. 

The Third game was exhilarating, as both toiled their way into minute 90. Prannoy was on the verge of victory, until a 71-shot rally sucked both of them to the ground, and Weng finally emerged victorious. Both looked tired in the end but luck favoured Weng. Their level of fitness was put to the test in this game. Despite the seniority Prannoy had on Yang, he had fought hard after being down most of the third and final game but ultimately won 22-20.

On the whole, the third set of the final tested both to their limits and Prannoy can go back with his head held high.

The next destination for the 31-year-old would be the BWF World Championship in Denmark.
